In March 2016, the women of Oxford University Powerlifting Club became British University Champions. With a team of relative novices, this was an outstanding achievment, and a testament to the progress that can be made with hard work and determination.
This meant we qualified to represent the UK at the first ever World University Powerlifting Cup, to be held in Minsk, Belarus on 11th-17th July, and we have four girls going. This is an absolutely fantastic oppertunity for the women of the club to compete against some of the best lifters in the world on an international stage.
The GBPF (Great Britain Powerlifting Federation) have kindly agreed to pay our entry fee for this competition. However, the rest of the cost falls to us, the athletes. This includes the cost of flights, accomodation, kit, equipment, coaching etc. Hence, we have decided to call on the support of our friends and family to help us raise the money we need.
We would be incredibly grateful for any donation of any size, and hope that we can do you all proud in Minsk in July!
Should we be incredibly fortunate and exceed our target, and additional money we make will go back into OUPLC, where it will be used to help to grow the club, and purchase new equipment and coaching for our members.
