Like many arts companies, Operasonic's work has been on hold across the pandemic. We weren't allowed to do what we love best - getting people singing!!
But this autumn, things are looking up! We'll be performing our new show Nightmare Scenario at The Riverfront Theatre, and we plan to open the doors of the studio theatre to a wide range of community groups who will explore the themes of the show through song and then come and join us for a Community Residency.
What we'll be doing
Across the next few months, projects will run with a whole host of groups including:
- pupils from Newport High School
- pupils from Pillgwennlly Primary School
- members of Coffee n Laughs based at Community House in Maindee
- singers from the Roma Community in Newport
- teenage songwriters from across South East Wales
Nightmare Scenario is an immersive drama following the story of a lost girl and two countries at war. The show was created in 2017 in Pillgwennlly Primary School with pupils from Year 5.
Why we need your help
It's been a tough year. Not being able to meet in person, not being able to see friends in school, not being able to access services in the community - this has all taken its toll on our mental health and our sense of connection.
Music offers us all a means of self-expression and connects us to our emotions. Creating work together brings us back together as a community.
By supporting our Community Residency, you will be helping us to bring creativity and self-expression back to the Newport community.
Operasonic have been making projects in Newport since 2014 and we love to create opportunities for people to use their creative power to tell stories through music.
Over the last years, we've been creating projects in schools, community centres, theatres, libraries and online. We want music to be there for everyone in our community – to give voice, to tell stories, to be joyful, to be emotional, to be loud and proud.
