Sonia Ben-Santamaria is a conductor, pianist and vocal coach who believes in making women’s voices heard both in the workplace and in society.
She set up Opera for Charity in order to offer more role models for women conductors in the industry and to offer encouragement to those considering this as a career. ‘Although things are changing for the equality of the sexes in our society, there is still a long way to go. It is important as a woman within this historically male-dominated role and industry to promote the nurturing of talent of other women and girls whose voices deserve to be heard. This cause is at the very heart of the company.’
Your help to raise the money necessary to cover rehearsal and performance costs will enable Opera for Charity to semi-staged a performance Carmen and to donate all proceeds from performance ticket sales to the Women and Girls’ Network and Dress for Success Greater London. In addition Sonia is offering the opportunity for a young female repetiteur with an interest in developing as a conductor to assist her and have guaranteed podium time.
