Who we are:
We are a not-for-profit meet up group aiming to improve the physical, social and mental wellbeing of adults who may find it difficult to find support groups and sports/fitness clubs. With an overall goal to get the individual back into sport or introduce them to it for the first time, we will be providing free sport and fitness sessions.
We kicked off Open Mind Sports in November 2019, with our first activity being Touch Rugby. The session was a brilliant success, however, we were hit with Covid-19 shortly after and was instructed to postpone any further sessions until it was safe to continue.
Why we need your help:
Figures from the Office for National Statistics are more alarming than ever. With the middle aged generation most likely to die from suicide and drug poisoning, and more than 1 in 4 care workers having reported symptoms of mental health. Also mentioned, were happiness and anxiety levels. These have drastically dropped since March 2020 and half of parents who were home-schooling agreed that it was negatively affecting their wellbeing.
Many studies have been undertaken to show the benefits of sports and fitness and how it helps to reduce poor mental health.
Many people have faced struggles over the last year during the pandemic, their mental health being affected the most. Therefore, as we slowly start to emerge from the most recent and hopefully the last Covid-19 ‘lock down’, (fingers crossed), we want to get back out there and help as many people as we can. We want to get back on track to continue our mission and support as many people as we can with their return to sports, fitness and community. This will ultimately improve their physical, social and mental wellbeing.
We understand that social anxiety will be a big hurdle to overcome for some people hence, we are also pleased to be able to offer online coaching and fitness sessions to allow people to exercise from home until they feel more comfortable about joining us in person.
How you can help:
Your contribution will help Open Mind Sports achieve their mission of helping individuals to become more involved in sports and fitness, to improve their physical, social and mental wellbeing, and ultimately of building a life-long love for fitness and wellbeing.
