Hi, my name is Louise and I'm a 38 year old single parent to an awesome autistic boy named Heath who is 8. We are owned by a mischievous Basset Hound named Shadow who is 2 and is H's loving companion.
I am trying to raise funds to begin a 6 year part-time Open University Forensic Psychology degree starting on 5th October (but funds need to be in place by 12th Sept.) Because I already have another degree, I will have to self-fund the fees.
One of the reasons I want to become a mature student and to study this particular degree is because of past trauma myself and my son have experienced at the hands of an abusive ex-partner. For many years I have suffered anxiety and PTSD and it has affected my ability to work. I've had long term medication, therapeutic and exercise interventions to help my recovery and I'm coming out the other end and can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I really want to be an example to my son and get back into education which could potentially lead to future work opportunities.
The Open University is perfect for me as I can work around my son and his schooling 16-18 hours per week but it won't be as overwhelming as attending full time university again and I can take it at my own pace.
This is the reason I am fundraising on here, to try to enhance our life prospects and get out of the benefits cycle which is so easy to get stuck into when you're a single parent.
Even a small donation would be appreciated to help me reach my target and I will give you regular updates on my studies. Thanks in advance for reading and please do share if you know any organisation or corporation who are able to donate or sponsor.
Huge thanks and warm wishes to anyone able to donate. Louise, Heath & Shadow. :) x
