On September 10th to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day I am launching my most ambitious project to date. Teesside is still in the top ten league table of people taking their own lives. I want to save lives. And this Christmas I am planning to get everyone in Teesside to work together to try and make something magical happen.
One More Light was a single released by Linkin Park when their singer committed suicide. It is a powerful and evocative song and I arranged it for myself and Infant Hercules to sing at an event in June. Such was the response I decided to record it as a single this Christmas. But I want the ‘choir’ to be representative of every community in the Tees Valley.
The song will be performed live within a number of large scale events across Teesside in November will be available online and other formats.
All proceeds will fund the setting up and training in listening and signposting for men in the workplaces and communities across Teesside.
There is more detail to follow but for now I am looking for people to support the initiative to help me identify and work with groups as choirs in the project. I am trying to raise sponsorship to work with 20 community groups (£200 per group) by rehearsing them to perform and record the song. 1000 participants would help me make this one of the most ambitious mental health awareness project seen in Teesside and the UK in decades.
