OAWLC was established in 2018, with the aim of making Weightlifting & Para-Powerlifting available to anyone who wanted to take part in it.
Since then the club has established a close community, that has welcomed athletes of all different ages and skills. After an uncertain year in 2020, the club is happy to have been awarded a premise in the Stromness Squash Court Building. Something that we have never had before, as we always hired space in the past.
This is exciting because it allows us to have our own base, which we hope will become a social hub for our members as well as our place to train. We want to outfit this facility to the highest standards, with the aims of being able to:
1- Offer our performance athletes the highest standards of equipment to train on for both Weightlifters and Para-Powerlifters
2- Create a welcoming and open space for beginners and experienced athletes alike
3- Have a space that can play host to our age group development sessions, this will involve specialist equipment that is suitable for people as young as eight. Offering our young people enjoyable, challenging and dynamic experiences with Weightlifting and Strength & Conditioning from a young age.
All of the money raised through this platform will be used to create this club going forward and allow the Orkney Community an experience to have access to the sport in the best way possible.
