Norwich and Central Norfolk Cruse Bereavement Care offers free bereavement advice and support to adults in Norwich and the surrounding area. We have only two part time members of staff, so we rely on a number of volunteers to carry out the vital work for the charity. We currently have a team of 60 extremely dedicated and highly trained Bereavement Support Volunteers, who give their time to help others to recognise their grief, explore their own feelings and to recover their lives. Each client is offered a programme of confidential one-to-one support sessions with a volunteer. Our volunteers also run a telephone enquiry line and a Monday morning social group, which is an opportunity for bereaved people to meet in a relaxed and friendly environment.
There is no shortage of demand for our services and we have a growing waiting list for people who need our support. During 2017, 1,682 people contacted our enquiry line; this was a 58% increase compared with the previous year. From these enquiries, 196 people went on to receive one to one support. 7000 hours were worked by our volunteers in roles including bereavement support, training, administration, fundraising and management.
Bereavement touches us all at some point in our lives and can have a major impact on emotions, finances, and general health and wellbeing.
Why are we Crowdfunding?
It costs £60,000 each year to maintain and deliver the services we offer and, as a self-funding voluntary organisation, we rely on the goodwill and support from the local community. Consequently, we are always seeking financial help to ensure we are in a position to continue providing support allowing us to maintain our services and reduce our waiting list.
- £240 will provide a client with six sessions of one-to-on support
