Unit 22, at the South London's leading Arts hub, The Penarth Centre, has opened it's doors to create three new artists studios this autumn.
The unit, comprising of 2000 square foot, will be divided into three artists studios hosting a Book publishers, Fringe theatre producers/venue, and a Bespoke Picture Framers.
Each artist will be working with a local carpentry/contractor to design their space that is tailor-made to their practice to ensure the best quality of their work to be produced.
The artists have been selected because of their promising contributions to the arts, and have been awarded to represent young and upcoming artists within their sectors.
We are asking for contributions in order to make this vision come to life. Artists for as long as we can remember have been working out of tool bags and any tiny shared spaces they can find, usually for an extortionate price. This disallows and discourages young artists to continue their practice because the facilities are simply too expensive to sustain.
We are offering to build studios at an affordable price that support young artists to continue to build and develop to the best of their ability in an appropriate work setting.
In this new covid-era, we believe that support for artists is vital in order for our industry to survive. Funds are at the forefront of this and we need support from the community in order to bring this vision to fruition.
