Newcastle Chinese New Year parade 2018

To stage Chinese New Year 2018 parade event and community programme

We did it!

On 20th Sep 2017 we successfully raised £10,000 of £10,000 target with 87 supporters in 28 days

The Chinese Festivity Group have come together on Crowdfunder UK to ask for your help to stage a parade on Sunday 18th February and community programme in the lead up to 2018 Chinese New Year celebrations in Newcastle.

In 2018 to celebrate the year of the Dog, we hope to raise £10,000 to reinstate a parade and full community programme, which will include dragon, lion and unicorn dances. In addition to floats and various performances like drumming by a female troupe, Chinese folk dances and children's dragon dance, colourful flags and banners will be displayed. The proposed route is from The Monument/Old Eldon Square to Chinatown (Stowell Street).

For the last three years the cultural event has had to be lower key due to limited funds available to organise the celebrations. This year due to 'match funding' available to us from Crowdfund Newcastle Culture we can get every £1 donated by you matched by the Community Foundation up to our £10,000 target!

The activity will start in October, we need costumes, workshops, school programme, floats and lanterns designed and made. We need to ensure safety and security at the event, first aid and pay for road closures and stewards. With your support we will continue to work hard to promote and celebrate the diverse culture in our city.

Please pledge your support on here, share and encourage friends to support. And get in touch if you would like to support us in other ways.

Thank you,

Check out the different rewards available. We hope to have pictures up here soon...
