Kiaku Productions is putting together a new black family sitcom. There will be 11 episodes for season 1, and set to be filmed within a hired studio set. Similar filming concept to My Wife & Kids, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, One on One etc. All monies will be used to produce this sitcom.
Why does the UK need a black family sitcom?
27 Years old, actor & director David Kiaku was inspired by the sitcoms he used to watch when he was a young boy. David was greatly impacted by these TV programmes, and they've had a profound impact on him, turning him into the man he is today. The vision behind this new sitcom is to inspire a new generation, bring laughter and give life value lessons through entertainment. There are a lot of great TV shows/programmes out there in the UK, but something is missing. Inspired by past sitcom programmes such as My Wife & Kids, Kenan & Kel, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, One on One and more, which are all US based, David wants to create a similar TV show for UK audiences.
David feels there isn’t much moral value in today’s television programs which young people can honestly look up to to be inspired and to aspire. For example “My Wife & Kids”, was one of the programs which has HAD a profound impact on David's life. When David was 13 years old he would always say to himself, “I want to get married and have 3 kids like Michael Kyle. I’m going to be very funny & silly with my own wife & kids”. Fast forward 16 years later, David now has his own wife & 3 kids.
“This is the same impact I want my own sitcom to have on the new generation coming up. I want them to be inspired, to laugh & be entertained all at the same time".
