We did it
On 25th November 2020 we successfully raised £2,680 with 24 supporters in 28 days

We are raising money to buy new iPads for our school. This will help us replace older devices and help improve learning at school and home.

New stretch target

If we raise more money than our original target - we will be able to purchase a full class set of iPads meaning a full class could each take an iPad home for remote learning and work 1:1 in class

Our school is a wonderful primary school nestled in the heart of Barrow in Furness town centre. We take children from 2 upwards and have a dedicated Nursery space next to our main school building. We are also next door to Sacred Heart Church which we have strong links with and work alongside our community to care for our local area and parish.

We have worked hard over the last few years to improve our use of technology at school and have a bank of iPads of varying age and condition which are used across our school. Some of our classes are using some fantastic new iPads which we purchased using a Rocketfund a few years ago but unfortunately some are still having to use our older devices which are no longer fit for purpose.

Our children are amazing at using technology and the newer iPads are increasing workflow, keeping them more engaged and are helping them develop their digital skills and work more independently than ever before. Our children can create green screen movies, record their thoughts and different oral activities in school and use it for homework/fun and all their lessons in school. They are confident to share pictures/ideas/music with their teachers and friends and are well and truly part of the 21st century in the classroom. They are very proud of how well they have developed their digital skills over the last few years and we would love to continue this fantastic work by updating our older iPads. It is so important to our staff and pupils to keep our school part of the 21st century and ensure the children that leave us are ready for the technological world they head into.

Also, it has become increasingly obvious during this pandemic that these newly found digital skills will allow our staff and children to engage successfully with remote learning and ensure that our pupils are still receiving a quality curriculum even if not on site. However, a lot of our children do not have access to devices that are suitable to work from regularly. If we could purchase new iPads to replace our older ones, then we would have enough provision to send home devices for children that need to self isolate or during another lockdown. It would also mean they are internet ready and we could help support those families that also don't have access to the internet. 26% of our parents who completed a survey did not have access to a suitable device and 17% have internet difficulties at home meaning they cannot engage fully like their peers do at home.

All of our children in the school aged 2-11 will benefit from this Rocket Fund and the devices we will purchase. The support of our community to achieve our vision is also an integral part of our aim in fundraising this way. Our school is the special place it is today because of the community it is in and it will be fantastic for our staff and children to know it is supporting and sharing our success.
