Over the last two years, I have travelled to Calais many times, on behalf of Care4Calais, Stand up to Racism and my school. I have called for donations from our school community to take to Calais. Through this experience, I have understood the necessity of telling people’s stories in order to build the unity to welcome refugees and migrants and stand up to hostile border controls. At NEU conference 2019, I seconded the motion on Palestine solidarity. I am proud to be part of a union in which members work to challenge the unjust treatment of peoples. We must continue our work to build an understanding of the Palestinians’ situation. Our solidarity with the Palestinian people emphasises the need for international pressure in order to demand a just and peaceful resolution for the Palestinian people. The money raised would contribute to my trip to Palestine and every little helps in supporting local branches to support their members who are selected onto the delegation. I have attached the link of the Feb 2018 delegation so you can understand the context of the trip and why it is essential for people to maintain solidarity. If you are able to support my trip financially, on my return, I would be happy to be speak about my trip to Palestine. As an English teacher, I also pledge to write a scheme of work suitable for teaching English on behalf of the union & Palestine Solidarity Campaign that could be shared nationally with schools to share stories, raise awareness and build the fight against injustice.
