Due to Covid-19, we have had to cancel our May delegation to Calais. These delegations organised by London International Solidarity Network, London New&Young Educators as well as Kingston, Lambeth, Redbridge and Westminster NEU members have contributed effectively to Care4Calais, bringing vital donations and enthusiastic and experienced volunteers to Calais, France. These volunteers distribute much needed resources to refugees and migrants who are suffering some of the most appalling conditions and treatment.
In order to demonstrate our solidarity when self-isolation and travel bans restrict us from volunteering, we are launching a fundraising campaign for a month beginning on March 21st 2020 in line with the UN Anti-Racism Day #WorldAgainstRacism. Care4Calais would have participated in this march and many of us who show solidarity with the fantastic work this charity does to support refugees and migrants in Northern France and Belgium.
What do we need you to do?
Join the online rally on Saturday via Stand Up To Racism’s Facebook, tune in 12 to 2pm!
We realise that these are turbulent times and you will be concerned for your own health, wellbeing and families. Please if you can, donate whatever amount to the crowdfunder and spread the word amongst your union members, friends and family. The refugees are as scared as everyone else, and we need to keep people as warm, dry and strong as possible, and to provide information and solidarity to them in this time of need.
