Who are the Near Miss Company?
We are a dance and performance group based in Leicester (UK) founded by choreographer Shannon Coote, producer/performer Louisa Robey and sound artist Lee Allatson. Dancers who have collaborated with NMC include Harriett Curtis-Hampson, Olga Galona, Hettie Holman, Lewis Holt, Bethany Storie, Paloma Styles, Ella Waine and Jordan Wildman.
What is RISK and why should you support us?
Risk is an exciting, high impact clash of split second timing, delivered through the mediums of movement and live drumming: dancers and musician assess, react, collaborate and respond in a sequence of fun, competitive and non-competitive games (see the taster video!). The message is one of unity, support and collectiveness, creating a work which clearly demonstrates women taking strong roles and crushes stereotypes associated with both gender and dance.
What is it that we need?
We are raising the £1500 (10%) match fund required to apply for an Arts Council grant: we have already raised a small chunk through performances this year - and will continue to do this into 2018 with more gigs and workshops.
Your Crowdfunder donation will help us develop RISK for maximum performance and workshop impact in the public domain through intensive rehearsal residencies and collaboration with industry specialists.
Our aim - with your help, and that of the Arts Council of England - is to bring the performance of RISK to a national audience, enabling us to share widely the positive and crucial messages that this work delivers.
We will host workshop events which place participants in scenarios similar to those within the work, bringing the opportunity to experience dance, movement and music interaction in a way which reinforces strong feminine roles; promotes both physical activity and artistic creativity - and, most importantly - having fun!
You - the funder - can gain access to the project's process in development and sharing of the work through exclusive video accounts and live streaming of rehearsals and performances; the opportunity to meet the team - and even participate in a rehearsal! Heck! We'll even buy you a pint after!
The artists themselves will benefit from the input of industry professionals in developing their own skills whilst also, crucially, affording the time to create with the support of industry rate fees.
