Get ready for action!

Get ready for action!

Launch-time for Pledge for Nature is fast-approaching! As mentioned in the last update, your support helped us to raise a further £68,100 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Since then, we have established a Project Steering Committee and I’m delighted to announce that a few weeks ago Bryony Paul came on board as the Coordinator for Pledge for Nature.  She has been busy preparing for the launch – meeting partners to agree priorities and working intensively with the web site design team. We are aiming to go live with the web site and on social media before the end of January, with a launch event in February (more info. later). From late January you’ll be able to follow us on social media @pledgefornature #pledgefornature. We will then send a final Update when the project has gone live and provide the address of our web site.

We hope you will all want to follow the project closely and be among the first to pledge actions to help nature’s recovery across northern Devon. There will be a range of exciting activities to choose from in our first seasonal call to action, plus the opportunity to participate in many volunteering events such as mass tree plantings.

The Climate and Nature Emergency is showing its ugly head all around the world, and “It’s time to Act!”. We hope Pledge for Nature will galvanise people across northern Devon to help tackle these global challenges.

Finally, we are seeking a Youth Representative to join our Project Steering Committee (in a voluntary capacity) and advise the project on youth engagement. They should be passionate about the environment and nature, social media active, be willing to champion youth engagement and be able to attend up to 4 meetings per year in north Devon. If you know someone who might be interested,  please ask them to send an email to biosphere-mailbox@devon.gov.uk titled Pledge for Nature – Youth Representative.

Once again, many thanks for your help in making this project possible – and wishing you all a wonderful and nature-rich 2020.

Mike Moser
