I've lived in Soho all my adult live - since the age 18. Living in Soho has influenced the type of person I am today in so many way. I'm also a travel journalist, and whenever back from a trip I sometimes feel disconnected to my community. I needed to find a way to feel more grounded, so I thought about re-doing the My Soho Times website... Then I thought - the internet is oversaturated with content, why not something tangible that that both visitors and Londoners alike can pick up? And that's when I set about to turn My Soho Times into a print magazine! I made the autumn pilot within a week - I was that hyped up! Until I get a team (and enough funding), My Soho Times will remain a quarterly print magazine. I'll also share content on the blog.
For 2020, I'm planning to launch the My Soho Times membership card which offers members exclusive invites to our support clubs and events. Anyone can become a member.
Overcoming the challenges
Aside from funding, one of the biggest challenges I face with this magazine project is that I'm dyslexic. Although I now embrace my dyslexia as it helped me dream up this project in the first place, I have to budget to have a proof-reader available as I've already made some embracing (though creative!) mistakes like printing 'editer-in-chief' on 250 businesses cards!
