Do you want to design your own tattoo but you cannot draw? My Tattoo is the book for those wanting to learn how to draw their very own.

by Keyley Graham in Hull, England, United Kingdom

I would like to create a how to book to teach others not only how to draw but how to create unique and personal tattoos that can be displayed on their body as 'their own'.

Tattoos are becoming more and more popular across the world with more people than ever getting inked. There is a wide variety of styles and designs but being someone who has tattoos of their own, I always feel a more unique and personal tattoo is better to have. When you walk into a tattoo parlor the first things you see are designs, on the wall, in books and these are what you're meant to chose from for you design. But everyone sees them? do you want a design that everyone has? Surely not.

I started keyleygrahamdesigns in October 2015, it first started off as just a hobby as I had such a huge interest in tattooing and wanted to design all of my own. I would post pictures of my designs on my Instagram page @keyleygraham and the responses that I got straight away were so positive I decided to set up a facebook page and a separate Instagram @keyleygrahamdesigns just for my designs. From doing this I found myself being swamped by people asking me to design them a tattoo which was great and everyone always seemed to love their designs, but I wanted to give them something more. I loved having my own designs tattooed on my body and although my designs for other people were custom to how they wanted they could never actually say it was their own.

I am a self taught artist and creating pieces of art has been something I have done for as long as I can remember. I understand not everybody can create artwork, some peoples skills are within sports or maths, not everyone can draw. But everyone can learn and this is when I thought of creating a learn to draw book based on tattoo designs.

There are thousands of books for children that teach them how to draw things such as cats to cars. There are adult sketch books and growing popular are adult colouring books but there is nothing to teach you how to draw your own tattoos. Why not? Tattoos are growing in popularity whether you like them or not so why not teach people how to draw their own high quality and personal designs.

Custom tattoo artists are becoming more popular because people want something of their own but i want to bring the customisation process right to the individual whose body will wear that tattoo for life. There is nothing worse than imagining a tattoo you want in your head but not being able to draw it out on paper yourself. My book will give you step by step guides on how to create all different types of designs from your old school roses and skulls to modern day dot work and fine line mandalas.

The book will begin with the very basics and offer cut out guide lines for drawing things such as circles and triangles etc. It will then go on to present a mixed variation of techniques and designs for you to learn throughout the book including free designs by myself for you to cut out and frame.

Hopefully with the skills and knowledge you will gain from my book you will be able to then create your own personal tattoos to take straight to a tattoo artist and get tattooed on your body.

If successful I do hope to be able to go on and create more specific learn to draw tattoo books based around certain styles such as dotwork, mandala, traditional and even Japenese for example. But lets give this one a go first!
