Project aim

2018 is the four-year anniversary of My Live School and what a journey it's been! We're already empowering around 3,000 children with access to real-world radio as a learning tool, and we're ready to grow.

In short, My Live School gives children access to a radio station in their school or youth organisation. These radio stations are then used to broadcast live and on-demand using My Live School's child-friendly, low-cost radio network. Teachers across the UK use My Live School to bring the curriculum to life to support the higher reading and writing attainment of the children involved.

Academic attainment is essential, but a good education includes the development of essential skills. In addition to supporting academic skills, My Live School is an opportunity for children to develop essential skills directly linked to creating a happy future. Our next step will connect 300 community schools and give up to 75,000 children access to an award-winning skills-building framework. Created in partnership with Skills Builder, our program is designed to formally teach and develop the essential skills required to become adults of choice, not circumstance.

We help develop the eight essential skills needed to succeed

"Teamwork, problem solving, initiative, confidence, independence and leadership are a few examples of the multitude of skills our children have developed."

Our funding goal

We're growing fast and need new shoes!

My Live School needs to upgrade hosting servers with more space, better performance and improved security.  £3400 allows us to overhaul system architecture and support a service capacity up to and well beyond 75,000 beneficiaries.

The stretch target...

Having the right engine is one thing, but we'll need help to get it up to speed.  Accelerating project growth will drive My Live School forward on its development roadmap to meet our community aims. Your pledge will permit broader social reach and more significant social outcomes, while we work to connect UK communities with their radio stations.

Problem  Vs  Solution

If your boat was sinking what logical step you take?

a) Blame someone else.
b) Keep frantically bailing out water and hope for rescue.
c) Go to the source of the problem and stop the leak.

The obvious solution for this scenario would be to stop the leak, right?
You might even stop the leak and then bail out some water for good measure. However, in the real world, evidence of root source logic applied to devastating social problems is surprising hard to find.

Take for example;

  • Unemployment
  • Mental health
  • Poverty
  • Obesity
  • Racism
  • Gender inequality
  • Homelessness
  • Finacial debt

It seems that when faced with a complex problem, some people choose to blame someone else. Up to 45% of the UK population believe the aforementioned social problems are entirely self-inflicted, rather than afflicted.

You could say while almost half the country is pointing fingers, everyone else is working hard to resolve social problems. Ask yourself, what side of the boat do you want to be seen in?

What is the root source solution to all problems?

A good education.  Yes, it is that simple.  A good education begins with the understanding that 85% of childhood is spent outside of a classroom; We're all accountable for the lessons we teach.

With this in mind, we've put together a helpful information pack called 'The lessons we teach'. This digital pack details what a good 'whole child' education looks like while providing practical bite-size tips and website links to learn more - available with each pledge or free on request without obligation.

When children are in school, teaching professionals are doing their best to deliver a well-rounded education despite increased financial adversity and curriculum constraints. More than ever, schools are proactively looking to provide pupils with creative, real-world learning opportunities that offer an educational return beyond statutory obligation.

How we help

Inspire, engage, educate and grow.

My Live School helps to improve speaking and listing skills, raise writing attainment while also engaging reluctant learners and helping to overcome barriers to learning. These successes are reflected in a report from the UK's educational regulator (Ofsted) who have described the use of radio in education as "Good practice". Supporting children to reach their academic potential is a big part of what we do, but it's far from being our sole focus.

We help develop the eight essential skills needed to succeed

Like academic ability, essential skills can also be taught. Our programme has been designed in partnership with Skills Builder.  This award-winning framework measures and tracks the development of essential skills throughout childhood. 93% of Teachers already using the Skills Builder framework report tangible improvements in their primary-age students’ essential skills, which include;

  • Listening
  • Presenting
  • Problem-solving
  • Creativity
  • Staying positive
  • Aiming high
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership

Don't just take our word for it
