To teach children the skills and techniques that develop a more positive self-image, and the confidence to deal with life's ups and downs.

by Kate Broughton in Addlestone, England, United Kingdom

As a child,  I lacked confidence and had very low self esteem.  I didn't have many friends and I spent many days alone in the playground with no-one to play with.

I thought it was only me who had been through this.  I thought I was the only one who felt nervous in so many situations.

When I discovered that I was not alone, it opened my eyes!

Why weren't coping skills and techniques taught in schools?

This is when I decided I wanted to help prevent children going through what I went through.

So I created a series of unique, interactive workshops called My Imagination, which are designed to teach these skills to children.

The sessions are run in 10 week blocks for 1 hour a week.

My Imagination workshops are designed to teach children from 4-16yrs the skills and techniques to cope with any situation they may come across throughout their entire lives.

I teach the skills and techniques through story telling, movement to music, craft activities, science experiments and the Imagination.

Today, too many children suffer with anxiety, stress, peer pressure, low self esteem, low confidence and anger issues. They are unsure of how to deal with these feelings and situations.

Children who have developed emotional and social skills are able to understand and manage their feelings, relate and communicate better with others, maintain positive relationships, set and achieve positive goals, are able to resolve conflict, have a more positive self image and show kindness to others.

By giving children an emotional education they can learn and develop these skills.  This means they will be better able to cope with difficult situations and manage their feelings throughout their lives.

The money raised will be used for a marketing campaign to promote these workshops.  To create awareness among parents that these workshops are available and how they can help their children.

The campaign will include recurring magazine adverts that are targeted to parents, social media marketing via Facebook, Instagram and twitter.

Posters, flyers and banners for local networking and promotional events.

Resources and materials to run the workshops.

Professional printing of course materials.
