To help pay for my mums rehab for 28 days at Focus 12, Bury St Edmunds.

by Gina Lyons in Northampton, England, United Kingdom

My Mum, Jayne Lyons have battled alcoholism for half my life.

She is a kind person who has spent her life helping and loving others, but life has in return been cruel on her. A divorce and the death of my brother, her first born, resulted in Mum using alcohol to get through life, which has led to addiction. She is now in Northampton General Hospital, on a drip, unconsious, having attempted to take her own life. This isnt the first time she has done this, but for the first time, I woke up this morning with a text from her at 5am, asking for help.

This is very personal situation, and so by doing this public, is very hard for my brother and I. We have always been protective of our Mum and her illness, and would never dream of doing something like this before.

However, I get married in 7 weeks and its going to be very hard to pay for the rehab on our own. Our family have suggested we set this up, as a way of gathering support.

For this reason, we are reaching out to our family and friends, with no expectation - to see if anyone would like to help our family get my Mum on the mend.

Focus 12 have offered her a place from May 1st. But its an upfront payment of £4500 for the 28 days. Focus 12 are a wonderful facility, who I fully endorse and support. You can read more about them here:

Alcoholism is a disease. Its a cruel, selfish, manipulative disease which ruins lifes and families. We dont expect everyone to be able to help us, nor should you, we all have our own battles in life, however if you can help in any way, The Lyons Family will be eternally grateful.

On a purely selfish note, I really want my Mum to be there when I marry my favourite person.

Thank you for reading.
