I have recently been awarded an opportunity to take part in the upcoming Muir is Tìr/Land and Sea residency, co-organised by Sail Britain and the An Lanntair Arts Centre.  This residency uses the land and seascapes of the Outer Hebrides as venue and research arena, offering a week at sea exploring the ocean and coastal anchorages of the archipelago, and a week on land following mountain trails and discovering the differing environments of the islands.

I am planning on creating a new body of work during (and following) the residency, exploring the conventions of "place naming" in the Outer Hebrides as well as the ways in which the environment has been shaped and altered over time. My artistic process has regularly combined investigative and research-based practices with fiction and storytelling, and I am very interested to explore how this intersection can figure in the context of the Muir is Tir/Land and Sea residency.

Work produced from this residency will form an exhibition at An Lanntair in Stornoway, and possibly other locations, dates TBC.

Why am I raising money?

I am looking to offset some of the costs involved in participating in this residency, including travel to and from the Outer Hebrides as well as fees associated with the program. I think this program will offer a great opportunity to develop a new body of work and extend my creative practice in the UK.
