Support our tea trolley theatre project and make Morris’s Christmas wish come true!

by Woven Nest Theatre in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

Our tea-trolley theatre feeds into a much bigger project. We are in the process of fundraising for a project which will enable us to create a trio of bespoke multi-sensory theatre for neuro-diverse audiences. Any additional money that we raise will go towards getting this project off the ground.

Our plan is to partner up with a North East care home, where we will run a series of multi-sensory workshops on the dementia unit. During these workshops we will experiment with multi-sensory techniques, performance and non-verbal communication. We will then go away and create a bespoke piece of multi-sensory theatre that can then be trialled again at the same home.

This is new territory for us but also within dementia care. There is a lot of research into the benefits of multi-sensory engagement for older people but there are not many examples of it being put into practice. This project will help us to experiment and explore what is possible with the end goal of improving well being for older people.

Thank you!

Woven Nest Theatre

Morris is our first tea-pot puppet, but he's been a little sad lately. What he would like more than anything this Christmas is some more friends to join him on our tea-trolley theatre before it tours to care homes!

Our tea-trolley theatre aims to bring a high-quality theatre experience right to the bed-sides of older people living in care homes.  It will include a treasure trove of teapot puppets, cake tins with miniature built-in communities and an array of things to touch, smell and taste to stimulate the senses.

The idea for this project came about after working in care homes and speaking with care staff. They voiced an absolute need for more activities for older people who are bed-bound due to disabilities and/or have late-stage dementia. These older people spend long periods of the day in their beds, are unable to participate in group activities and in the most need of sensory stimulation.  We wanted to create something special that felt familiar, was easily transferable, and had lots of sensory surprises along the way.

Every penny raised will go towards creating and piloting our tea-trolley theatre. This includes materials for the theatre and puppets (Morris was born from lots of tin foil, glue, a second-hand teapot and a steady hand), red velvet curtains, lighting and sound materials & sensory materials. We will pilot our tea-trolley theatre in Dovecote Care Home. This crowd-funder will enable us to apply for bigger pots of money, helping us to create more theatre for older people with advanced dementia.
