More boats = More opportunities

by RGSHW Friends of Rowing in High Wycombe, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

Longer term we want to continue to renew and expand our fleet of boats so we won't stop with one boat. We want our boys to have the opportunity to experience rowing in singles, doubles and quads and to have the chance to train and compete at all levels. We want as many boys as possible to experience the challenges and rewards of rowing. We see a vast range of benefits - friendship, teamwork, resilience, commitment, physical fitness, and mental strength to name but a few.

At the RGS HW we are proud to offer all boys from year 8 and above the opportunity to learn to row, train and compete - a fantastic offering in a state school.  This year 91 boys have trained and learned to row with us. Most boys join as complete novices and progress to competing at a range of levels, from local regattas to The National Schools Regatta at Eton Dorney and the British Junior Rowing Championships in Nottingham. A select few have even gone on to participate in GB trials. We think we really punch above our weight!

Your donation will help us to achieve our goal of buying an additional boat. It will allow more boys to train and compete (boat sharing can be tricky at a regatta if races are close together). A new boat will also put our crews on a more level pegging with crews from wealthier clubs. We are looking for a boat that will support the boys' development for another 10 - 15 years so we plan to get our money’s worth.

We are a highly committed group of boys, coaches and parents and have been successful at all levels. We have boys on the water or land training 7 days a week - pretty impressive for a school set-up.

The Club has been going since 1954. We have a solid history. Your donation will enable an even brighter future.
