Our Group Minibus isn’t just a Minibus, and it isn’t just ours!
Being over fifteen years old, our current bus is not likely to see another year out and desperately needs replacing… but it’s not just for us! Every Scout Group, Guide Group, Youth Group and Charity has access to our bus, and many thousands of young people and adults have benefited from using our bus over the years. For many, our Scout Group included, our activities simply could not take place without it – our bus has become a valued link in being able to deliver Skills for Life events and adventures right throughout the year.
As well as Scouts and Guides, who are the main users, some other regular users include: Community Spirit, who use it to transport homeless men and women for a hot meal; Serpentine Road Family Church and all of its members for away days and weekend trips, which also include many of their groups such as CAMEO (Come and Meet Each Other) and Knit ‘n’ Natter… these are just a few!
Scouts changes lives, and provides young people with Skills for Life. Scouts does this by offering adults and young people, irrespective of background, fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact within our community. Our minibus is just one of the vital tools we have that allows us to increase our provision of Skills for Life activities, and we make sure it is available to support many thousands of people throughout the year, and throughout our community.
Each week in Scouting across Merseyside, over 8000 young people are given the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment - our adult volunteers have countless opportunities to expand their Skills for Life too! Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.
Scouts across Merseyside have access to our minibus, and use it to ensure they can take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. Our Scouts learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, and some even learn how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
Many other community groups and charities rely on our minibus to deliver similar experiences for their members too! These everyday adventures, which provide a variety of Skills for Life opportunities, are possible thanks to the availability of our minibus. Our minibus supports many thousands of volunteers, who use it week in week out to deliver activities and provide opportunities for adventure, training, learning Skills for Life, as well as for fun and friendship.
Our hope is to secure funding to buy a much newer, if not brand new, minibus, so that we can be sure to keep our Skills for Life adventures on the road well into the future! Additionally, we know a more modern vehicle will help us ensure a wider number of users from outside the Scouting community will access and use the minibus – greatly enabling more people to enjoy Skills for Life adventures!
Scouts changes lives, and we build real and lasting relationships within our communities. Our minibus has been the foremost way of our making a positive impact, enabling many thousands to develop Skills for Life, and we want to ensure we are able to continue to support this long into the future.
We thank you in advance for your support.
