GAW swim club covid impact fund - Tokyo challenge
We did it
On 8th May 2021 we successfully raised £468 with 11 supporters in 44 days

I’m doing the Tokyo challenge, raising funds for Gateshead and Whickham Swim Club to replace income we normally make from our own galas.

My club has been unable to run its own swimming galas during COVID. The funds we raise from our galas are a significant part of our overall income and help us pay for our pool hire and coaching.

Our aim is to raise £16,000 the same amount that we raised from our galas in 2019. Sport England will contribute 30% of our target, as long as we raise the rest ourselves.

The funds will enable the club to pay for a significant increase in our water time so we can train at a level which enables us to compete successfully. This is really important to me, and to other swimmers at the club, so we can achieve our swimming goals.

During the Easter holidays, swimmers from the club, including me, will be clocking up lots of miles by walking, running, cycling and swimming. We will also earn miles by doing 75 press ups, 75 continuous burpees and maintaining a plank position for 3 minutes. the challenge is that together we will travel the 5,766 mile distance from Gateshead to Tokyo, the venue for this year‘s olympics.

I want to achieve a distance of 70 miles during the Easter holidays, and raise £200 for the club through donations made by supporters to my page.

Please please help me to reach my target by making a donation to my crowdfunding page, your donation will count towards the overall target, and for every £1 donated, Sport England will be contributing another 43 pence.

You can also help by buying one of the great rewards we have on offer on the main GAW crowdfunding page.
