This year we saw the 11 year anniversary of Million Women Rise. Million Women Rise (MWR) believes that male violence against women and children is a global pandemic. Violence devastates the lives of women, our families, and our communities. It also threatens to undermine efforts to bring about sustainable development. Therefore our campaign to end violence against women is an international struggle for female emancipation and liberty.
The Million Women Rise (MWR) Movement is made up of thousands of women who are united by outrage at the continued daily, hourly, minute-by-minute individual and institutionalised male violence enacted against women worldwide.
We believe that every woman and child has a right to live free from violence and that ongoing violence devastates not only the lives of the individuals directly affected but also the communities of which they are part. We want to highlight the continuation of all forms of violence against women, and demand that steps are taken to put an end to this.
Activities are predominantly based in London, England. Over the yearsMillion Women Rise volunteers have facilitated regional actions and activities through out Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.
Million Women Rise works in solidarity with international women's movements on a variety of campaigns and projects. We work to build and create links with and between grassroots and political activists, to create safe spaces for sharing information. we provide a platform for women to speak out globally.
Million Women Rise works with women as powerful change makers. We promote real change that is based on truth, peace, and love.
HOW WE WORK
Million Women Rise is a collective of women who work autonomously as volunteers, without any corporate sponsorship or formal funding. We promote real change that is based on truth, unity, peace and love. We rely on the support of donations to keep our voice autonomous.
Sabrina Qureshi is the 'founding coordinator' of Million Women Rise, having worked within the movement since 2008.
Million Women Rise has a national Co-ordinating Group which is based in London. Sub-groups work on different aspects of MWR such as fundraising, publicity and networking. As well as the national Co-ordinating Group, there are regional groups that operate in other areas. Regional MWR volunteers encourage women to take part in the national demonstration as well as organising local events.
Million Women Rise is non-partisan, it has no formal links to any particular political networks.
Everyone who works for Million Women Rise is a unpaid volunteer, none of our donations are spent on wages. This means that all of your money goes directly to the cause. All donations, no matter how small, are appreciated.
We need to raise at least £14,000 for the next march to take place. These funds will go towards costs such as public liability insurance, stage hire, audio equipment for Trafalgar Square.
