I survived domestic abuse and have now started a business to meet the housing and personal development needs of domestic abuse survivors.

The project background...

The current lockdown has unsurprisingly seen a steep, steep rise in domestic abuse.  I hate to use the word 'victim' but the reality is... I really was one - but no longer! So I want to use my experiences to help and support individuals who are in or have been caught in this terrible situ.  I really believe that I can use my 'getting back on track' journey, passion and energy to do something positive with this project ...

In the beginning...

About 17 years ago, I was in a terrible marriage in which I endured brutal domestic abuse.  I nearly lost my life - on more than one occasion! My two sons were very young at the time and also suffered terribly. After experiencing a particularly violent episode, I ran away from home with my sons - and nothing else but the clothes on our backs, a small suitcase and little money. We lived haphazardly for a while using the goodwill of family - but we were always looking over our shoulders... wondering if and when the 'peace' would be shattered...

We eventually moved back to our home once we learned it was relatively safe to do so.  But we still felt very, very vulnerable and unsafe...

Our shaky 'calm' continued but after awhile, we were able to start afresh - in a new location, in a new home.  I also got a new job.  The boys and I then slowly started to have a real sense of safety, peace and stability.  And so began our ‘long road to recovery’ - stumbling upon support and opportunities as we went.

My Arrival...

Fast forward the years, and the many ups, downs and in between places of life - by God’s grace and support of family and friends, my sons and I are doing well. I have a successful career and my sons have now grown into fine, intelligent young men, carving out their own paths.

So... this is 'the place' to turn my experiences into a service offering that completely empathises with and uniquely meets the needs of domestic abuse survivors - this is MiARRiVAL!

So what's the offering?...

Well, I have a big vision - to largely be a 'one stop' shop for domestic abuse survivors.  However, I have to be pragmatic and take small steps.  So for now, the first start up steps are to:

  • organise central contact points where MiARRiVAL support and resources can be reached - that is, an official online and offline presence (including website, social media, telephones and office space);
  • secure at least one property that will be a safe haven for a handful of survivors to reside in; and
  • provide training and personal development courses aimed at domestic abuse survivors.

I should say here that there are domestic abuse organisations out there that are doing a great job in supporting ‘victims’ and survivors - locally and nationally.  But the demand far outweighs the supply. So I’m setting up this venture to be an extension of their work - bringing my own personalised flavour!

Important to note also that the service I am offering is open to both women and men.  My journey has shown me that domestic abuse can affect anyone - from all ages, backgrounds, cultures and religions.

I really, really need your help...

Over the years, I have encouraged, taught and supported domestic abuse survivors in various guises and through various platforms - using my own means. But the setting up of  MiARRiVAL will personally enable me to deliver a great transformational programme in nurturing, safe environments, on a bigger scale - but will take finance to really get it off the ground.

'Rewards'...

Allow me to express my gratitude to you in advance for your goodwill and kind generosity in helping to bring this vision to life with your donations.

I'd love to be in a position to offer rewards that match and even surpasses your giving - but I'm not there yet.  But I am able to offer exceptional CV writing and interview preparation services at discounted prices. Do click onto the tabs in the ‘Rewards’ section to benefit, following your donation.  [For your assurance, I have sourced, interviewed and recruited many individuals for organisations so have a very good insight into what employers are looking for].

Get ready, get ready, get ready ...

So over to you, now... please help me get started - and do look out for progress updates to see how your donations are helping the project to develop.

Much appreciated...

There’s not enough words to say how much I appreciate your kindness...THANKS, THANKS ... AND THANKS AGAIN for your support!!!
