Meridian Gymnastics Club in Yaxley, Huntingdonshire opened in July 2019, a family run business intended to celebrate gymnastics at all levels in our local community. In the 8 months before the first Covid-19 lockdown, the club grew to 400 members and was already making its mark in the local community. During the first lockdown we supported our members with Zoom sessions and challenges and built an outdoor area to safely offer small fitness groups as restrictions changed, reopening in late July to deliver 14 weeks of perfectly socially distanced gymnastics throughout the Autumn.
As a new club we had budgeted to hold 8 fundraising competitions in the first 18 months of opening to build up our equipment offering and so be able to accommodate a greater number of local gymnasts at our facility. All but one of these had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 and with the requirement to invest hugely in equipment and the outdoor space in order to reopen as a socially distanced club (at a cost of nearly £10000 ), the club has really struggled to put in place fundraisers that will help us to continue to develop and evolve so that vitally needed new members can join when Lockdown 3.0 ends.
We are encouraging our members to do a Sponsored Gym Tour, working on fitness activities themed to each area of the gym and raise £12 each. This will allow us to buy a series of new pieces of equipment that will enable us to provide better and more stretching activities for all our gymnasts, no matter how long we have to keep coaches socially distanced from our participants in the gym.
All the money raised via this fundraiser will be spent on equipment that directly benefits every gymnast in our club and will be spent in order of need, so that the items that are most necessary will be bought first, should we not raise the full amount.
