This extra money would be absolutely fantastic to go towards presenting and displaying my extra portfolio work and also allowing printing costs for a Project Lookbook, adding to the supporting work of my degree show! It would also mean that I am able to produce some extra samples and work to even further widen my portfolio.
A collection of ceramic pieces with a focus on surface decoration and colour, handmade by designer/maker Meghan Downs for final degree show.
Developmental sampling and final collection of ceramic works to be produced for final year degree show. All items are individually hand made one-off ceramic pieces with surface details aimed to be aesthetically pleasing and also to tell a story of fragmenting images to represent a visual memory journey.
The funding will be used towards creative costs, such as ceramic materials, equipment, sketchbooks, and printing. These costs occur during the creative process of making the finished products, alongside any supporting drawing, research and technical information.
This funding will also help with printing promotional material such as a look book and business cards for use at the degree show to increase awareness and also appear professional, as well as show display costs for example creating plinths and securing work.
About the artist
I am a final year student who lives in Nottingham during term time and originally come from a small village in Staffordshire. I hope to get a job within a design company to gain experience of different design and craft fields. The degree show is very important to me to gain exposure and complete my degree by showcasing my work to industry and also by adding skills and work to my working portfolio. My website has examples of other projects that I have completed during my degree - http://meghandowns.wix.com/meghan-downs-designs
Work on display at NTU currently
I currently have some work on display in the Bonington Nottingham Trent University building, along with my fellow course members. This is acting as a 'sneak peak' of what is to come for Degree Show.
Here is an image of what I have chosen to display -
The final collection will be a series of individual and unique ceramic vessels, as well as a ceramic wall piece that will be of similar surface quality. I will produce more pieces than required for the final show so that there is a good range and the best pieces of work can be chosen, as well as meaning that there are other sample pieces that can be used as rewards and even sold.
