Since August 2015, we have made monthly trips to Calais with teams of volunteers & large collections of aid. Between August & December 2015 we transported & distributed thousands of pairs of brand new gloves, socks, hats, wind up torches, underwear, sleeping bags, tents & cooking implements. We have recieved amazing support from local schools, businesses, WI groups, churches, & larger charities. We were asked to speak at the Canterbury Cathedral carol service in December & the generous collection from the 2000 strong congregation was donated to Meeting Need. For the past 6 months we have worked in partnership with Calais Kitchen, supporting the incredible work they do feeding over 9000 people every week. It has been wonderful to see our local community come together to support another community so desperately in need. The Camp is due to be demolished at the end of the month. There is a huge amount of fear and anxiety in the camp - especially amongst the 1022 unaccompanied children who have already been through so much trauma, and are yet to be offered alternative accomodation in France or access to the UK. We are heading back to the camp on the 20th October to provide a morale boost for the long term volunteers in the camp; fresh legs to help out; and a trailer full of essential aid as eviction looms. Thank you so much for your support - we could not continue to do this without it.
