This year my dad and I both decided to challenge ourselves to cycle 100 miles (each!). Before signing up, we had both merely cycled leisurely and so a lot of training has been needed! Whilst this is a personal challenge, we are excited to be doing it for sponsorship for The Bridge: please sponsor us both.
A little info on The Bridge...
The Bridge was founded in 1999 as a small community of church-goers and friends who sought to help homeless people in Birmingham. It became evident that substance misuse was preventing people from moving forward. Solution: The Bridge responded by starting a recovery programme with a desire to bring hope and support to those who are marginalised, and to see people set free from the limitations of life-controlling addictions.
The Bridge has two six-bedded recovery houses, one for men the other for women. Within these homes, they provide a 12 steps addiction recovery program. They also aid the residents long-term to reconnect into the community via providing access to volunteering opportunities etc.
The Bridge aims are as followed:
To provide support within a safe, family-style home in The Bridge where people feel valued and develop relationships of trust with the staff.
To equip people for sustainable living on a practical level, teaching the necessary life skills and establishing friendships and support networks in the community.
To help people to address life-controlling issues such as addictions, mental health issues and other problems, working closely with other professional and voluntary agencies, providing individual support and friendship.
To provide low-level, individual support for those who are making the move on from supported accommodation, encouraging and equipping them to sustain life in the community.
Please help Carina and Tony raise money to help The Bridge achieve their aims.
