As I'm sure you know, I've spent the last 8 months working on a personal passion project: Maternal Leave, a feature film I directed, produced, wrote, edited and acted in.
The film is deeply personal to me, and tells the story of my wounded relationship with my mother and my journey of growth, forgiveness, guilt, resentment and empathy. It is about healing and conditioning, and about trauma passed down generations. It has been described as "dark" and "female", which I guess are compliments! It discusses themes not commonly talked about - such as attunement, the Mother Wound, the impact of addiction/abuse and other patterns and learned behaviours and how they transfer unintentionally from woman to woman in families.
As a first time filmmaker I faced many challenges - especially with sound. I am very sadly 5 minutes short to enter any festivals, and don't have any savings left to shoot an additional scene. I would really appreciate, if you enjoy the film, any donations to help the film reach 60 minutes (it is currently at 53), to qualify as a narrative feature for film festivals. The money will also allow me to hire a sound mixer to help record voiceovers at a studio for clear sound, which is important when played in a festival environment on speakers.
Regardless of whether or not you can support this cause, thank you everyone for your support so far. This film has been deeply cathartic and healing for me, and I really hope you enjoy watching it.
