Mary, who is 55 and an NHS midwife by trade, had to retire at the age of 45 due to the progression of a condition called Schwannomatosis.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwannomatosis). Many families will have met Mary in antenatal clinic at Fazakerley Hospital until she had to retire on medical grounds.
I first met Mary on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 2017 where I had the privilege to support her for the week. We have become firm friends! When I found out that Across were planning a trip to Rome, I immediately asked Mary if she would like to go. As a Registered Nurse myself, I can not only support Mary, but also other VIP's on this trip.
Due to the nature of her condition, Mary, who is fiercely independent, is reliant on an electric wheelchair but still manages to live in her own home. She has carers to help her and many family and friends. As a Catholic, looking forward to a trip to Rome where she will be able to take part in Holy Mass led by Pope Francis has kept her spirits up.
I have started this crowdfunding page to ask for donations, however great or small, to pay for Mary to take part in this trip.
The target is £2000, this will fully cover Mary's trip and spending money, and it will also cover some of my own personal costs .... I pay the same fee and take unpaid leave.
I thank you in advance. x
