Having started my running journey just 5 years ago I have completed many 5k, several 10k and a handful of half marathons but have never undertaken the challenge of a full marathon. I was due to run one last year but we all know what happened last year so I was given a reprieve but I couldn’t shake off the everyone’s got a marathon in them and so this year has all been about completing the magical 26.2 miles. The training has been a bit of a rollercoaster between wth am I doing to I think I can do this. So far this year I have covered over 500 miles (25% of my previous total). Several of those have been with a local group - The Sunnywood Project which was established in August 2020.
They provide a variety of events from The Breakfast Butty Run, Toddler Trekking through to Teenage Wellbeing Hikes and a multi day event - The West Pennine Way, all of which go toward supporting their Youth Programme (see theSunnywoodproject.co.uk). They are so supportive of everyone who runs or hikes with them with the mantra no one gets left behind and I’m hoping that I won’t get left behind in a few weeks time!
As The Project grows from strength to strength they are developing new Programmes to help a broad spectrum of the community, from creating more interactive walks to encourage older generations to become more active, to their SPRUCE Programme - aimed at engaging young people deemed at risk of criminal behaviour to carry out some restorative work in various green spaces around the Borough of Bury for the benefit of all.
However, as the programmes grow, so does the amount of equipment they need to support these young people and are now in need of a more suitable vehicle to help transport this equipment around.
I’d like to help them raise some funds towards this in completing the Manchester marathon on 10th October. This is where YOU come in. I appreciate this is another request for support but hope that you can spare some pennies to help them on their quest by sponsoring me.
Thank you very much and wish me luck
