The Manchester Advice Centre (MAC) will be guided by the principles of equality, fairness, impartiality and justice with a view to serving the local community and its people. A key theme throughout the project is the empowerment of individuals in their local communities.
Having independently and extensively carried out casework in the local area on a myriad of issues, ranging from welfare rights to landlord and tenant disputes, we found that there was a great need for advisory services in this deprived community. Moreover, having worked with the local Parliamentary representative for Manchester Central, Lucy Powell MP, we were in a unique position to understand the type of casework where there was significant demand, particularly in the areas of housing, welfare rights, disability rights, employment rights, children's rights, asylum and immigration, amongst others.
