The Exhibition

MAKE/SHIFT is an unique art exhibition exploring the relationship between everyday objects and contemporary art, blurring the line between function and aesthetic. The exhibition is on show at AIR Gallery this summer from 5th until 29th July 2017 with an events night on Saturday 8th July and live art performance from 6pm.

The exhibition features 8 early-career artists from across the UK who share similarities in their creative process and themes. Artists include; Conor Roger, shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2014 and Elena Brake, first prize winner of the Corporation award at Plymouth College of Art in 2016.

The concept of the exhibition was created by curator Becky Wild and artist Alan Baker, winner of the GreatArt award at the Nottingham Castle Open and shortlisted artist for the GMArts prize in 2016. He reveals that “the concept of MAKE/SHIFT is to explore the shifting perceptions in art through the use of everyday common objects. Taking lead from Duchamp, these artists take the ordinary, unwanted and discarded and reconstruct them into carefully arranged works of art. These works are a comment about modern day 'throw-away' society and are intended to make visitors question their everyday environments.”

The exhibition will alter and change throughout it's duration, creating a new experience for the visitor each time it is viewed.

We Need Your Help

We are seeking funds to help cover the cost of running the exhibition for one month and (if we hit our target) then take it onto a touring programme at other venues. The exhibition is a chance to support a number of talented young artists at a grass-roots level to enable them to progress further in their artistic career. It is also a way to support the arts scene in the NorthWest of England and promote emerging talent.

Our costs include transportation of work, promotional material, equipment for the artists, the events night and some overheads. If we hit our target we would like to cover the travel cost of our artists too. We currently have no funding or outside support so your donations would really make a difference.

Everyone who donates will be invited to the private view on Saturday 8th July 6pm-8pm where we will have resfreshments and live performances by the artists. You will also recieve exclusive discount offers from AIR Gallery on their event nights and workshops. We will also credit each donator via social media and within the gallery during the exhibition.

Any donation is gratefully appreciated.
