What we need
We have recently moved to a new building in response to the increasing numbers of local young people needing our help. While our new location has lots of lovely extra space, our Young Person's Area is in much need of a makeover to make it a welcoming safe space that meets the needs of our young people. A multi functioning space where they feel welcomed, wanted and listened to.
We're looking to raise £2000 to cover the cost of equipment needed by the young people. This includes a PC with desk, small fridge, iPad, TV and DVD player and DVD's. We would like to make the most of our fantastic outdoor space with a parasol and base. Our wonderful volunteers and young people will help to get the room looking top notch - it's always a real team effort here!
What we do
In 2018-19 we helped over 320 young people avoid homelessness. 83 were from Scarborough.
SASH is a community response to a growing problem of homelessness among young people. We help young people avoid homelessness across North and East Yorkshire by offering them a place to stay in homes of volunteers, keeping them safe at a time of crisis and for the longer term.
Oakley said "Without SASH I don’t know what I would have done. I’m close to achieving something that I want to do, if I’d stayed where I was I wouldn’t be doing that."
The Young Person's Area being made over is used by those in our Supported Lodgings Project - our longer term support for young people who do not have the skills to live independently. These young people's previously chaotic lives have often left them feeling vulnerable, with low confidence and self-esteem, lacking friends and support as well as becoming disengaged from education, training and employment.
What will the young person's area used for?
We want our young people to have a multi-functioning space to come and hangout, but also to use for applying for jobs, studying, holding workshops, giving and receiving feedback and everything else in between. By including a wide range of activities, we will build their independent living skills, stretch them physically and emotionally, help them to experience new things and build strong supportive networks.
The next steps in this project need your help and generosity. Every penny pledged will help us to make a welcoming, safe space for our Scarborough young people.
We have a range of cash pledges, starting from just £5.
Let's go for it!
Let's make this happen for our young people! Please make a pledge, support, help to spread the word, chat about it over a cuppa with family/friends/colleagues and give us a shout on Facebook or Twitter!
Thank you from all at SASH - we couldn't do it without you!
