MAKE Gosport was conceived in 2018. We found a building and launched our first Crowdfunder in December 2019. The Crowdfunder was successful and the project commenced in January.
That building did not work out, so, after some delay, we settled for a much larger and better suited one.
Renovations ran from May to August. On 1st September 2020 we opened with nearly 500sqm of workshop and studio space – twice as large as originally planned. Spread over 2 floors (we built a mezzanine to increase the usable space!)
We have around 50 members, many of which have been regularly using the facilities with enthusiasm for more than three months. The can access Woodworking, Engineering, Metal Working, 3D Printing, Laser Cutters, Pottery, Sewing, Leather Work, Arts & Crafts, Electronics & Robotics and much more besides.
We would like to improve access and offer training and workshops to a wider community. The focus is to build a more creative and connected community by enabling people to learn new skills and hobbies..
The pandemic certainly impacted the pace of the renovation - despite a significant personal investment from our founder there are still a few projects to complete.
We want to the building and its facilities to be more accessible and much more comfortable for everyone to work learn and play in. We’d really like to:
- install a wheelchair lift and an accessible toilet.
- insulate the roof, so we can heat and cool the space in an economical and environmentally friendly way.
