To create a sexual safety/mental health hub to support female and LGBTQ+ performers legally, financially and socially

by Make A Scene in Nottingham, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

This will go towards marketing and events.  There is so much to do to create awareness and solidarity and with funding I can do it.

I have been a musician on DIY music scene for along time. Over the years, female and & LGBTQ+ performers have felt comfortable to disclose attacks or mental health issues to me, always with the caveat of ‘don’t say anything’.

So I’m not saying anything, I am doing something.

Even today I received a message about a serious sexual assault and a plea for help; I could have received the same message 15 years ago.

Nottingham was the first place in the UK to make Misogyny a hate crime, I think it’s time this news reached the music scene, especially the rock/hardcore/indie diy scene.

I am applying to the Arts Council for funding, but to get my bid taken seriously I am gathering data- which is cosingt me money I don't have, and that I didnt plan on having to spend - just simply using Survey Monkey is £96 for the month of £400 for a year!

I would also like to arrange a Symposium. If I raise enough capital, I won't have to charge people to attend and I can I pay the speakers as well as the venue (I will be putting my own money in too!)

I am unsure on doing a crowd funder but the message I have received today has made me even more determined to make 'Make A Scene' sucessful -both locally in Nottingham and with the aim of a National roll out after 12 months.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Kind regards

Emma
