We need funds to furnish and equip a 4 bedroomed house that we have acquired for vulnerable and disadvantaged people who are homeless to make a house into a home.
Our charity works in Devon with socially excluded and complex needs individuals. Our work includes helping those with a history of homelessness, who are vulnerably housed, or have lost their accommodation due to financial distress. As demands have increased, local authority funding and resources to deal with this situation has decreased. On top of this, many local landlords will not take tenants on benefits due to fears over universal credit and housing benefit changes which has led to an increase in homelessness.
We are not prepared to see vulnerable people homeless on the streets. Our strategy is to lease, or raise money to buy, houses so that we can house and support these vulnerable people. Whilst we have managed to secure this property we now need to provide the basics of furnishings such as beds, sofas and carpets, and a few home comforts including a TV!
We believe everyone has a right to a stable, secure and decent home and we are looking for supporters who believe the same and who will help us to raise the money we need to furnish and equip this house to a good standard. The residents will also be supported by a support worker who will help them with life skills and managing a tenancy.
