The Mounting Stone was set up in 2016 following on from the success of our sister pub The Chiverton Tap. As a business we champion local producers whether it be craft beer or artesan spirits. One question keeps popping up amongst our customers is whether we produce our own beer. The answer has always been no but now that both businesses are established we feel that we have the time and experience in home brewing to make the leap to producing larger batches for the two pubs. The brewery will be situated in a small space we had previously used for storage of empty casks at the rear of the property. It is envisioned that it should be able produce 4 firkins per brew run which equates to a one barrel brewery. We are hoping to engage members of the community in taking an interest in brewing by engaging with The home brew club at the Chiverton Tap. The brewery will collaborate with the home brew club members so that they can experience drinking their creations on cask ale and eventually craft keg format.
As an investor in this project you may be wondering why we require crowd funding if the business's are established and successful? The answer to that is two fold, firstly we have invested profits of both businesses into building improvements at both sites which will become more noticeable as the year unfolds. Secondly, we have never borrowed from the bank to finance our business and we are not intending to start now. We believe that for a small investment from a lot of people will create something special for the village nurture a sense of pride and belonging. We also hope that the addition of a brewery will raise the profile of the village and have a knock on effect to the local economy.
