LWS is raising £10,000 to fund practical training programmes to give women affected by domestic violence opportunity back into employment.

LWS successfully held our launch party on the 25th of November, a fun evening where guests networked, got to know the beneficiaries of the project, participated in a quiz and dancing. It was a great evening! Thank you everyone who dropped by!
LWS is a social enterprise passionate about giving women in refuge, the opportunity to rebuild their life and mental health by running training programmes in hospitality and catering. These programmes are geared at getting these women back into the workforce. We are crowdfunding now to grow this project to ensure we can help more women.
In the United Kingdom, one in four women will experience Domestic Violence in their lifetime. While support usually focuses on solving the immediate problem of physical abuse, the insidious impact of Domestic Violence can include depression, loneliness and a sense aimlessness, symptoms that can manifest days, months or even years later. The sad reality is that even after help has been given, a woman’s previous life is basically over. Everything she once knew has to be rebuilt from the ground up, including making new friends, rebuilding networks and re-entering the working world.
LWS is a Social Enterprise located in Crystal Palace, London. Launched in 2001 to support women who were leaving refuge. Working with our local women's aid and other voluntary organisations, we were able to successfully reintegrate the women back into society through self assertiveness and confidence training programmes, motivation workshops and basic ICT skills.
In 2009, LWS registered as a Social Enterprise to self-sustain our project and in 2017, we have successfully expanded our premises with the inclusion of a bakery, coffee bar and cocktail bar, allowing us to expand our training programme to include these new areas of our expertise.
Today, our goal is to impart viable and practical skills, enabling the women to re-enter the working world while rebuilding the confidence lost due to the abuse.
This programme has been crafted specifically as several mini-academies with the specific aim of training a group of women in hospitality and catering - areas such as customer service skills, baking, cheffing and coffee-making.
Beneficiaries are encouraged and supported to choose the area they are most passionate about and get full training in these areas. After successful training some of our beneficiaries will go on to secure jobs with support of their case worker and job centre. Some of the more exceptional trainees are retained as our own paid members of staff.
This model of training creates a constant cycle of trainee to trainer, allowing us to take on new candidates which then creates a self- sustaining project. We find women who can become trainers feel they are making a difference and impacting peoples lives in a positive way and also gives them a sense of ownership to the project and voice to those with lived experiences.
We are confident these programmes work . Ninty percent of our beneficiaries have said as a result of attending our training, they have been able and are motivated to actively seek employment opportunities.
They have built their confidence through a steady work routine and working in a team. Been able to forge new friends and build new networks whilst on the programme and in the latter stages of the programme, enabling them to become trainers themselves.
As a result, we are getting more referrals which is leading to the demand for more trainers to impart skills, confidence, and build up self-esteem.
LWS is trying to raise £10,000 to cover a six month period of training for 10 women who are in the early stages of rebuilding their lives. There will be four courses a month, customer service, baking, cheffing and coffee making (barista work).
£30 - would cover tutor and admin fees per woman per month
£60 - would cover tutor, admin and travel per woman per month
£90 - would cover tutor, admin, travel and childcare cost per woman per month
£120 - would cover tutor, admin, travel, childcare and tools per woman per month
£150 - would cover tutor, admin, travel, childcare and tools per woman per month plus room repairs
