Project Aim

Raising funds to refit and restock Lucy Loves @ Didi's Boutique, bringing a genuine 1950s feel to the shop and giving customers a special shopping experience.

About Me and the Project

I bought the Didi's Boutique business three months ago following working for the NHS in various admin roles for 20 years. My dream was always to have my own dress shop and when I was offered the opportunity to buy Didi's by the previous owner, my lovely partner Andy bought the business for me (my Hero!)

My plan since day one has always been to bring something a little different to the area, by introducing Lucy Loves @ Didi's, a mini 1950s 'Boutique-Within-A-Boutique' however as time goes on, my vision is now to make the whole Boutique a rockabilly and vintage haven for the whole family.

I have been a 'vintage lover' for 3 years, following a pin up photoshoot during which I realised that 50s fashions flattered my figure. I literally went from wearing all-black, baggy clothing to dresses, overnight! Ever since then I have strived to get friends wearing these fashions as they literally do flatter all figures and sizes!

Didi's Boutique is very special as it has its own catwalk, which means I can hold regular fashion shows and events in-store. My daughter absolutely loves it, as you can imagine!!

The Boutique consists of two rooms, the 'front room' (above) and the 'back room' (below) in which I have already started stocking a range of 1950s vintage reproduction dresses, catering for sizes 6 to 26.

As time goes on, it has become obvious that the 1950s dresses are proving to be very popular, especially the children's range which I have been stocking a limited amount of. This is brilliant however I do not feel 100% content because as you can see, the room is not decorated in a way which follows the theme.

What will your money pay for?

- New vinyl flooring to the rear room.

- Decorations for the rooms

- Fixtures and fittings for the rear room - I am currently using mobile rails to present the dresses on, which doesn't look great in my opinion.

- Further stock including more of the childrens dresses and I would also be introducing mens tees and shirts (I am being asked often by boyfriends of customers, when I am going to cater for them as they have needs too apparently!!)

Of course taking over a business was never going to be plain sailing; I have struggled through since the beginning. You may wonder why I just haven't taken out a business bank loan. Basically I cannot get one because I am not a start up business - I have taken over an existing business, and because Didi's was not actively trading within the few months before I came on board, companies will not even consider me.

What will You receive for pledging?

I have thought long and hard about crowdfunding, since it was suggested to me by Boutique customers a couple of months ago. At first I dismissed the idea in my mind, as I presumed that crowdfunding was basically begging people for money in return for nothing, which just came across as a bit cheeky to me. I realise that doesn't have to be the case at all. Those of you who know me will know that I'm quite generous (arguably too generous) so if you were to pledge a donation towards this campaign, you will get something in return.

Please check out the panel to the right of this page; all the 'thank you gifts' are listed there. I am also creating a Wall of Fame to go in the Boutique, and this will feature pictures of all the lovely ladies and gentlemen who have pledged, whether it be £100 or £1 it doesn't matter because every pound does help and it is appreciated. You do not have to go on the Wall as I understand that some people would wish to remain anonymous.

What if I do not reach my Target?

I have set the target at £3000, which would cover costs for the flooring and decoration and it will enable me to bring in a large range of new stock. However if I do not reach the target, I will still be able to use the funds raised to put towards the new floor and anyone who has pledged will receive their thank you gift.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at or feel free to call into the Boutique. I am based at 18A Ashley Road, Alrtrincham, Cheshire WA14 2DW.

Thanks to all of you for your attention xx
