Loxley is a small village of approx. 150 houses and is situated 4 miles south of Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The Fox at Loxley has been the village pub since the 19th century and has had some changes made to it over the years. We are not sure if Will Shakespeare frequented the Fox, but he was caught poaching in nearby Charlecote Park. Loxley also has a small school and one of the oldest Churches in England, but no village hall.
The Fox comes with a one-acre field, which it is proposed to use for growing vegetables that would be used in the Fox, as well as having part of the field as a community orchard and for community events.
The current owner put The Fox on the market in April 2019 and is being kept open by them, on an interim basis.
A handful of residents have joined to help organise the village into raising money to purchase the Fox Inn.
The aim of the project is to re-establish a viable community pub that gains a good reputation for the value and quality of its service, food, drink and other service offerings to support the local community, such as a shop for essentials and a café.
A Community Benefit Society Limited has been formed and registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (No 8203).
The Steering Group are now selling shares, a minimum of 4 shares at £50 each, i.e. £200. Groups of friends, family members or clubs can group together to achieve the minimum holding.
However, only the first named investor on the application form will be a Member of The Society with voting rights. In recent years there has been a growth in the numbers of community owned pubs. Therefore, The Fox will not be the first, or the last, to go down this route. There are approximately 80 such pubs currently operating in the UK and each one has been set up in a manner that best suits it’s community and situation.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to secure such a key facility for future generations and if we fail, we run the risk of losing The Fox pub forever.
