Sunday 5th August Katie and I experienced the scariest night of our lives whilst staying in Senggigi Lombok, Bali. A 7 magnitude earthquake hit the island followed by several other earthquakes and a tsunami threat.
Thankfully both Katie and I are now both safe, unharmed and we are fortunate enough to be able to leave Lombok and escape further danger, sadly the same cannot be said for so many others and our heart goes out to them and their loved ones.
The Indonesian local people took Katie and I to safety on Sunday night along with their families, they showed us kindness, love, and compassion during a very difficult and upsetting 12 hours. It is impossible to put into words what they did for us and how safe they made us feel, despite the immediate and uncontrollable danger around us. I am in awe of them and I hope one day I am able to repay the human race in the same way.
Almost 70% of the homes, property, and businesses have been damaged in Senggigi, the area we had been staying in when the earthquake hit. If any of our lovely Facebook friends and family could spare some change and donate to help make a small dent in assisting to rebuild these beautiful peoples lives we would be forever grateful. Whilst it won’t change what has happened we do hope it will make things a little easier for them.
