In 2020, I'm hoping to go on an expedition to the Peruvian Amazon with the British Exploring Society in association with the Scouts.
This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and will include some of the following activities:
– Camera trapping to record animal diversity in the jungle.
– Exploring the link between climate, vegetation, and human disturbances in the rainforest.
– Studying the rate that leaf cutter ants transport leaves.
– Mapping trails and unmarked tributaries.
– Ascending up into the canopy to study.
– Nocturnal amphibian and herpetology transects.
The British Exploring Society is a unique youth development charity which uses expeditions as a vehicle to advance the education of young people by developing their confidence, teamwork, leadership and spirit of adventure and exploration. Since it was formed in 1932, the Society has run countless expeditions to remote regions across the world including jungles, deserts, mountains and the arctic. Read more here.
The money I raise will go towards important vaccinations, medication, visa costs, transport, training, food and equipment.
My aim is to fundraise as much as possible to meet my £5000 target. I'm currently organising a bake sale along with a expedition member. Other ideas that have come up are a Tombola at the local Christmas fayre, bag packing at the local supermarket and a quiz night.
I'll be grateful for any donations you can give. Sponsorships will go directly to enabling me to fulfil this amazing opportunity. Alternatively, if you or anyone you know, have any suggestions for fundraising, I will be very happy to hear from you. I am also looking for sponsorship from any companies that might be interested.
Many thanks for taking the time to read about my project.
