A Life Supported By Technology

My interest in technology began in my childhood and I quickly started tinkering with electronics and acquired my Amateur Radio licence at just sixteen years old. When once it was a career choice I now rely on it as my health has deteriorated in later life.

I now work from home on a laptop, my wife and I produce a Vlog together using smartphones and a tablet, our life is organised with shared calendars and our home is now a Smart one - to #MakeLifeSimpler as we call it.

Challenging Health

Whilst also being on the autistic spectrum (Asperger’s Syndrome) I also live with Anxiety, Depression and Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. Even though my MS is in remission it still has some symptoms that affect my daily life.

I struggle with energy limitations, cognitive functions some days and co-ordination when trying to pick things up or carry out a task. I soldier on though and am thankful that I can still walk and work whilst I am still in remission.

I am a keen smartphone photographer and a bit of a geek. I enjoy videography too and this project is the convergence of all the above experiences. I have a home studio I will be using to produce the show to keep costs down.

The idea for a technology podcast for people like my wife and I came from a recent local MS Society meeting. During the coffee morning I was chatting about how we use tech to make our life easier (e.g. smart lighting). It appears there are a great many who don't realise it's possible!

A New Podcast Production

‘Living, Enabled’ is a new tech show especially for anyone living with a disability or chronic illness - not just the diagnosed but also their carers.

Distributed via the Internet in video and audio formats it will be accessible to all and free on demand.

The show covers everything from mobility scooters to screen readers; and accessibility settings to recommended online resources.

Living, Enabled will also conduct remote interviews with those making the news and innovating products and services to help those who need the support of clever technology and accessible resources.

We will also film on location when possible and explore the world of supportive technology first hand. Then share our findings with our audience.

Equipment & Expenses

Whilst I have a space to film we are starting with just one lamp, two smartphones and a tablet. We have acquired a green screen but still need to purchase additional lighting to use it effectively and cover the cost of our web-based remote interview and podcasting facility.

There's also the cost of any printed materials we may need to help promote the show, sample products or services we want to review (we may not always be able to secure a sample or preview), trade events, travel expenses, online advertising and any additional guest fees we may have to cover to secure content for the show.

Let's get this show on the road ...

I look forward to receiving you backing and getting back into a form of production that will not only fill that gap in my life, since I was diagnosed with MS, but also share what I've learned with others in a similar situation - whatever their disability or chronic illness.
