The Colerne Old School Charity is improving the village play area. Martins Croft Play Area Project involves local families volunteering to fundraise to install play equipment for children with disabilities or additional needs as there aren’t facilities locally. We have raised thousands of pounds to install special equipment in the new year as well as wheelchair height raised beds. We need £250 for the sensory plants, seeds and compost to fill the raised beds.
We will run a free Little Crofters group so children and families can come along and plant seeds, tend the sensory plants, create bird feeders and bug houses to take home and learn about nature and the environment.
If we exceed our target we hope to raise enough for another raised bed or two so we can offer more opportunities to more children and increase the sensory experience.
We have had second hand children’s gardening tools donated and an experienced gardener is kindly willing to run the Little Crofters sessions for free so if we get the funding for the plants (and hopefully more raised beds) we can start the sessions in early 2020.
