I am a member of Garvald Edinburgh, a day service that gives me support to help me follow my dreams. Outside of lockdown I attend Garvald Edinburgh three days a week where I work in the puppetry and confectionary workshops.
I am from Hong Kong and have a learning disability and am almost completely blind. I began singing with my voice coach, Royston, and learnt a song to sing for charity.
One year, shortly after Christmas I asked my friend, and old singing partner, Sarah, if she would sing a duet with me. We sang 'I will always love you' by Dolly Parton for everyone in love on Valentine's Day. Sarah & I wrote many songs together.
The words came from my dreams, and Sarah helped put them to music. Since then we have sung in care homes, at many ceilidhs, on the main stage at the Meadow's Festival, and even had a slot at the end of a Fringe show at the Edinburgh festival, and we got through to the Scottish final of Britain Variety. We made a CD to share some of our songs that I had composed from my dreams. One year I even sung with award-winning Karine Polwart at Gorgie Workshops. I also recorded the theme tune to Garvald Edinburgh's 50th birthday party.
Now Sarah has moved to the west coast, but I am still dreaming up songs and use my phone to record them. Geeta and Robin (my new and old keyworkers) and Becky (from the Media Group) and Royston, all from Garvald Edinburgh are helping me with this video and fundraiser. My confidence and pride grows as I raise money for different causes. Thank you for everything you can offer today.
I am raising money for two organisations. The first charity is British Heart Foundation. This is very important to me because my heart needs a pacemaker and I have been helped a lot and want others to have help too.
The second charity is Garvald Edinburgh. This organisation has been helping people to stay safe and look after people like me while the scientists come up with a vaccine for the virus.
Please donate and help me reach my target in aid of the two charities. Anything you can contribute towards helping me achieve my target will be really appreciated.
This means so much to me, and helps me to know that I can help people like me.
I have made some special keyrings and if you are able to donate then I will be able to send one to you or give one to you.
Note from ceilidh collective:
Everything raised by the end of the Crowdfunder will be split 50:50 with half going to British Heart Foundation and half to Garvald Edinburgh as Linda directs. As well as any funds, however small, you are kindly able to donate, a wee message on here, her fundraising page, would mean a lot to Linda. We'll be sharing comments with her.
Thank you so much for helping Linda's dreams of fundraising for charity come true!
